Scooter Aid

The Micro Scooter Aid project provides refurbed Micro scooters to charities, hospitals and other good causes in New Zealand for the children in their care.

The idea is to help in the best way we can, by giving refurbed Micro scooters to kids who:

  • could do with a good dose of fun and happiness
  • don't have many things of their own
  • need help to work on balance and co-ordination issues

It's a project close to the hearts of the Micro team and we're very happy that we've been able to make it happen.

We've got scooters to give, you tell us who needs them.

Nominate your favourite good cause and each month we'll choose one and give them scooters. Just like that :)

The children in our Whittlesea group were very excited to try out the new Micro Scooters. The donation of Micro Scooters is a wonderful addition to our limited resources as we continue to establish our new site based in Whittlesea. This is a new program for 2017 to support families living in this area, who have previously had limited access to location-based community supports.

Melbourne City Mission works with the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our society. From children living with a disability, or young people with nowhere to call home, to people who need assistance into education or employment, Melbourne City Mission helps people find their own path to independence, providing them with the support they need. Established in 1854, originally by the Churches of Melbourne, the Melbourne City Mission has grown to become a contemporary, non-denominational, community services organisation, recognised for their leadership, diversity, innovation and inclusive approach.

"Micro Scooters have been awesome in supporting us with the gift of these scooters and we hope other community based projects can also benefit from their generosity."

    Womans Refuge

At Wellington Women’s Refuge we were super excited to receive the generous donation of Micro scooters for a range of ages from pre-schooler through to primary age through to teen.

We immediately took out to our safe-house three of the scooters. For children staying in the safe-house with their mothers these will be much appreciated. While we are able to more easily organise a selection of toys for babies and pre-schoolers often the older children especially can be bored away from their usual environment so we are always on the lookout for things they will enjoy.

The scooters are good quality durable ones and not something we would be able to afford to buy within our limited budget.

We have a large private back yard at the safe-house with a concreted area and this is proving pretty perfect for scooter races!

We will also be able to give out scooters to families we are working within the community who would not normally have access to something like this.

Wellington Women’s Refuge and Te Whare Rokiroki, Maori Women’s Refuge are not-for- profit charitable organisations that provide services to women and children in the Wellington community. We provide support and advocacy for women and their children who have or are experiencing domestic violence. The women we work with are from a range of ages, ethnicities and socio-economic backgrounds.

Women do not have to stay in our safe-house to receive our support. We also work with women in the community. We provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment where women experiencing domestic violence are supported to make decisions for their future.

We operate a community office, social work support, counselling, women’s and children’s programmes, a safe-house and a 24-hour, 7-day a week crisis line assisted by a roster of trained volunteers responding to the crisis line outside working hours.

"These scooters will be used in the gym within this unit to help test and teach balance, coordination and gross motor abilities to our young patients in a ‘fun’ way."

Foster Hope is thrilled to receive 5 of these amazing Micro Scooters which will be given to children in foster care in NZ. This first batch will be going to children under the care of the Open Home Foundation. So often children arrive into care with very little to call their own so receiving, what is often, their first set of wheels in a huge deal for them.

We would like to thank Micro Scooters for their generosity in providing three scooters for our children to use. The scooters are easy to use and are designed for children at different stages of physical development and with different coordination abilities.

"Micro Scooters have been awesome in supporting us with the gift of these scooters and we hope other community based projects can also benefit from their generosity."

The scooters can be adapted to suit children who may not yet be able to stand and direct the scooter; the seat function for younger or less coordinated children is an excellent beginning step for children to gain confidence on the scooter so they can develop to the next stage of riding the scooter while standing.Micro Scooters have been awesome in supporting us with the gift of these scooters and we hope other community based projects can also benefit from their generosity.
