Mama Knows Breastfeeding

A chance meeting with a new Mama and a lactation lightbulb moment sparked a mission to enhance the experience of motherhood by creating natural, nourishing and functional food that supports women through pregnancy, breastfeeding and beyond.

Fran Fogarty, the 'Fran' in Franjo's Kitchen gives up her top Mama Knows tips in time for Mother's Day:

How do you manage your children's screen time?

I have had to make a really concerted effort here after getting into some bad habits. We now have just about no ipad or phone screen time (long car rides being the exception) and the TV (netflix) is only allowed on weekends. I have found that the easiest way to manage it is to not allow it. Both my children behave terribly when we have too much screen time and when I used to allow the ipad or iphone all they watched was weird videos on youtube!

How have you introduced sustainability into your home life?

This is a work in process. We are trying to limit any single use plastic and I don't really buy the kids "snack food" in individual wrappers etc. A proper vege garden and compost system is in the pipeline and I also try to make from scratch where possible. I also try not to have takeaway coffee or buy water. But I've got to admit we could be doing a lot more!

What are your top tips for cheering up your Mini Me?

What's your favourite way to let off steam after a busy week?

I'd like to pretend it's yoga but it's probably wine with my girlfriends.

What's great about running a business when you have young kids?

I don't have to worry about sick leave or annual leave. If my kids are sick they stay home. If it's school holidays I'm on mum duty. I feel very lucky.

What's not so great about running a business when you have young kids?

The struggle for headspace. My business and work takes up a lot of my headspace, whether I am working or not which results in me not being as present as I would like to be for the kids.

What tips would you give other Mumpreneurs and working Mums for how to integrate business and motherhood?

Outsource outsource outsource. Whether that's in your business or in your home. You can't have it all and you can't do it all. Budget permitted I outsource as much as I can both within my business and within my home so that I can focus on the fun stuff work wise and my children at home.

And finally - what's your favourite treat from Franjos Kitchen?

Definitely our choc chip Tanker Topper - it's our best seller and so delicious. I also love our date, walnut and maple muesli!
